Hope in God Moving Forward in Faith”
Meet Assistant Pastor Smith and Family
Pastor Smith relocated to Illinois from Wisconsin with his family in 2001. He has travelled to various states but was born in a suburb outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He surrendered his life to Christ in 1988, and was called to the ministry and finally surrendered to a ministerial call in 2003. But still unsure of himself he asked the Lord for a sign that would forever settle the potential doubt in his heart. After praying, one morning he awoke to find a distinct gray patch in his beard. Pastor Smith and his family arrived at SVBC in 2006. After worshipping there for a while, he became a Deacon, then an Elder and now holds the position of Elder/Assistant Pastor.
He and his wife recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. They have 3 children: Gregory, David and Kayla and two grandchildren: Gregory Jr., and Oriana. Gregory resides in Delaware with his children.
David recently graduated from High School, and Kayla is a sophomore in High School. His wife Sharon and children David and Kayla serve in various capacities in the ministry. Pastor Smith’s heart is for individuals to know and receive the love of God in its entirety and for His children to use their gifts and talents to help strengthen the body and further the work of the Lord. It has a pleasure to serve at SVBC for the past 9 years.
Listen To Your Elders
Sometimes we feel defeated and worthless. Compared t God we are sinful and weak. We struggle to be faithful followers of Christ, but we fail. We must remember that God valued us so highly He set His Son to die so we might be saved to spend eternity with Him Jesus died for each of us individually. He loves each of us as an individual person and God doesn’t make mistakes. Because He thinks so highly of each of us; God’s love gives us value. John 3:16

The Father’s Role
The essence of the father’s role
Is to mirror God’s own heart
And to value instruction in God’s ways
With the grace that God imparts
Every father needs God’s wisdom
To carry out his role,
As the tower of strength and support
For each fragile heart he holds
And there’s no greater reward in life
For a father to take his place
And uphold the values of the Lord
With integrity and grace.

Book Review
The Promise by Tony Evans
The definition of a promise is a statement given by someone that he will do as he said. Because God does not lie we can be assured of His promises. The Holy Spirit is not merely a nice add on to our faith. He is the heart and core of it. Discover what the ministry of the Spirit can mean in your life today.
Claim Christ’s startling promise for yourself. “When you come to Jesus the Spirit of God brings your Spirit alive; He connects you to Gods internet. You are now linked up so that you can communicate with God and he can communicate with you.(Tony Evans) This book goes along with Pastor Wrice’s messages so I highly recommend this book for thought provoking insights to the workings of the Holy Spirit.

Youth Ministry Blog
Youth church has become a huge influence in my life. I have learned so much since I started coming. Weve been learning about Easter and how important Jesus is to us. I have been talking more to God and asking Him to lead me and guide me through my Spiritual walk with Him. Youth church has impacted my life in such a powerful way. I am very grateful to my teachers who help me learn more and more each week. Overall I am blessed and thankful for how youth church continues to help me on my journey with the Lord.
